  • Do you want to playtest: The Swedish Secure the flanks

    So for our new Swedish tournament we didn’t want to have the bunker assault mission and came to realize we have very few missions (read none) where we have important bunkers as well as objectives. Then we thought about the Secure the flanks mission. We have tested it a couple of times and I must admit is truly great.

    I thought about saying something about Brexit but decided to stay away from that. Sufficient to say that I believe a majority (sadly) of the UK people will think it is a tiger… see? I can be subtle…

  • Swedish championship AAR Egge’s review Part 2. The Swedish champ

    Posted on by egges

    So after the Swedish championship have been over for two weeks it is now time to consider what have happened. Just random talks of the weekend and of what we did.

    With 8 participants for the tournament I later decided that it would be more fun if both me and Simon to play in the tournament. But the first day was a set-up day. The second and third day however. Had Sweden’s largest tournament to date. 10 players. That is the number of participants Sweden’s largest tournament.

    Screw you! We are like 50 people living in Sweden so 10 are freaking a lot! 🙂

    But here is my experience from the Swedish champ.

    awards 4 Swedish champion!

  • Mission Evolution: Ground Control

    I have been thinking a lot about how Ground Control work in Dropzone Commander. My criticism is mainly aimed at Ground Control but could be extended to FPs. It is very easy to contest a table quarter, harder to contest a FP. Of course the very easy part of that statement is dependent on surviving with your units but the fact is you only need 1 point of units worth to be able and contest regardless of the opponent having their whole 1500 points worth of an army controlling it. I would like to see a change. Continue reading  Post ID 4294

  • After action report. One day tournament in Gothenburg

    Last Saturday we had a one day 1500pts tournament in Gothenburg. It was held by Jens and as one who won’t let the opportunity to play in a tournament that I don’t hold myself away me, Stefan and Björn attended. Scourge (best list “evaaa”), Resistance (what do you know – a Thunderstorm!?) and Scourge (descent lista actually). It also was part of an ongoing start-up campaign so the opponents in all three games had already been set.

    This is my short report.

  • Swedish champ 2016; Swedish Search 2.0 The champ version

    So we have now set the missions to be played on the Swedish championship and it will most likely be these;
    Swedish Recon version 2.0
    Swedish Search
    Swedish Ground control
    Targets of opportunities
    Bunker assault

    I thought to go through the Swedish missions (I assume most people know about Target’s of Opportunities and Bunker assault) and my thought about it.

  • Invasion 2016: Snolbs AAR

    So I’m back after my third Invasion and as like the two other times it was great fun and five good intense battles with 5 nice opponents. My personal goal this time was to have three wins and make it to the upper half. First time I had three losses and two wins and second time one loss, two draws and two wins but I have always make it to the upper half. Last time I played Feral Resistance but now I was back with the Allies…

  • Breaking! New Scenarios from Hawk!

    Just some minutes ago Hawk Wargames released some new scenarios that will be played at the Las Vegas Open.
    You can find them here!

    It seems that they are for bigger battles like 2000P+ but I think youcan just edited them to suit your size of games. And just a little odd thing is that there is no explanation about the new “Critical Location”. But after a little chat with Simon at the Hawk forum I think they will be working like this: Player get 1 score at the end of turn 2 and onward if the player have more points than the opponent within 3″ of the Critical Location. This is real good for it make sure for some action the whole battle and I’m really keen to trying this out!

    What do you think of the new scenarios?

  • Would you like to playtest – Sector Control?

    It was a while since I constructed a new or a variation of a mission. There have been some interesting missions popping up on the Hawk Forums that I am yet to playtest. Hopefully I will get around to it soon. This time I have been thinking a lot about Ground Control. Its mission design differ some from other missions like Targets of Opportunity or Land Grab. Hawk introduced a variant on Autumn Invasion 2015 where you could also contest the quarters not only control them, which is the case in the original mission. This variant is called Ground Control+ and were introduced and finely tuned by the fine chaps at the Orbital Bombardment blog. But I think the mission even if it is an improvement, lack some finesse. • Strongpoint Raid Game 1

    The original DZC rulebook have some hidden gems in my opinion. As a tournament player I do find that playing massive and not-so-balanced-mission can be fun as long as there correct expectations are there. Therefor me and Snolb talked about the missions in the rulebook that doesn’t get as much action as the rest. There are very few actually getting used out there. Mostly we have been thinking the Attacker-Defender missions in the rulebook. That means

    • Strongpoint raid
    • The hunt
    • Demolition
    • Decapitation
    • Bridgehead
    • Gauntlet

    These are six of the available 12 missions which actually hint that DZC had a original purpose of being about 50-50 casual gaming with cool models and 50-50 balanced play. Later on this changed and from the rulebook Hawk have with their tournament pack basically said that only four missions are worth playing in any kind of balanced setting and in their own tournament they are only consider 2 of them worthwhile.

    But the variation of the missions is what caught my eye in the beginning. Not playing pitched battle (focal point of objective missions) or a small variation of that was one of the main drivers for me. So me and Snolb decided for the following thing;

    We are going to test all Attacker and Defender missions in the rulebook and blog about it. At least each mission will be played twice.

    And film it.

    The goal isn’t to film poorly but we will take this as learning to get the hang of making small films. The set-up of these blogs will basically always be a 2 parter:

    1. The first will be a trial game. This is where no player really have full understanding of the missions and the balance and so on. we will make a small film, show the result and then have a small discussion if this is a mission with some sense and if it is fun. We have a suspicion that some of these missions need to be slightly tweaked to work at their best and we will give our opinions on that to.
    2. The second part will be a little more detailed film on basically the same set-up but with armies more tailored for the mission. This does not need we have made the best armies but more focus on more fun armies. We will then give our closing thoughts on the mission and suggestions on what You should consider when playing these missions to make them as fun as possible. We will not try to get these into a tournament setting (although some parts could be inspiring to a tournament mission) as we don’t see them being there but we will try to find a way to player them and evaluate them and basically either suggest you try them out (and what you then should consider) or give the feedback on what changes you need to make to make the mission fun enough to use.

    So let’s start

  • When to do your list?

    A short one today. Sorry there haven’t been lots of time blogging (well it has but I’ve been drunk and lazy). First up;  http://dzcblog.blogspot.com/ there is a new video. Check it. You want to.

    That said. I’ve been thinking a little about when we do our army lists and why then? It seems there are some different opinions (naturally) on this matter.

    You should do this your own way. But just so you know…if you do not agree with me;
