Denmark on sunday – list anxiety

So I’m having a fit. We will visit Copenhagen on Sunday for a 1 day tournament and fight off against the Danes. Ghaaa…. Testing list or going standard? Though there is not so much difference I thought to give my two list selections.

List 1.

Standard Army
Clash: 1497/1500 points

Standard Roster [1497/1500 pts]
Oppressors [225 pts]
Desolator: Desolator(Master) [225 pts]

Vanguard [341 pts]
Ravagers: 3x Ravager, Harbinger [190 pts]
Stalkers: 3x Stalker, Harbinger(+Mini Arc Caster) [151 pts]

Vanguard [105 pts]
Hunter Squad: 3x Hunter [105 pts]

Warriors [331 pts]
Warrior Horde: 3x Warriors, Marauder, 2x Invader [156 pts]
^ Sharing ^ Warrior Horde: 3x Warriors [81 pts]
Warrior Horde: 2x Warriors, Intruder Alpha [94 pts]

Occupation Patrol [196 pts]
Minders: 4x Minder, Intruder Beta [56 pts]
Destroyers: 2x Destroyers, Intruder Alpha [140 pts]

Invasion Host [299 pts]
Slayer Squad: 2x Slayer, Marauder [141 pts]
Reaper Squad: 3x Reaper, Marauder [158 pts]

With a CV of 4 instead of 5 I’m going way off my normal routine (outside box thinking eh?). But this means I can get a better ground force. I get all the basic infantry inside one battlegroup which means I can do the last activation with them, enter a building and then shoot start of next turn which doesn’t have to be a double tap. With 8 E11 shots that most likely hit (can someone do the math for the Warriors chance to hit?) it can cause massive damage.

I also can have a small unit of hunters driving on giving me a lot more ground forces than I’m used to. Overall the attack power is rather great in this army.

Or I can play somewhat similar army as on Invasion (2 squads of Destroyers) but with a CV of 4 but I think I need to go further off than I’m used to. 2 Destroyers are nice but… Then we have list 3.

List 2.

Standard Army
Clash: 1499/1500 points
Standard Army

Oppressors [225 pts]
Desolator: Desolator(Master) [225 pts]

Vanguard [341 pts]
Ravagers: 3x Ravager, Harbinger [190 pts]
Stalkers: 3x Stalker, Harbinger(+Mini Arc Caster) [151 pts]

Vanguard [304 pts]
Hunter Squad: 3x Hunter, Marauder [146 pts]
Reaper Squad: 3x Reaper, Marauder [158 pts]

Warriors [237 pts]
Warrior Horde: 3x Warriors, Marauder, 2x Invader [156 pts]
^ Sharing ^ Warrior Horde: 3x Warriors [81 pts]

Occupation Patrol [336 pts]
Minders: 4x Minder, Intruder Beta [56 pts]
Destroyers: 2x Destroyers, Intruder Alpha [140 pts]
Destroyers: 2x Destroyers, Intruder Alpha [140 pts]

Occupation Patrol [56 pts]
Minders: 4x Minder, Intruder Beta [56 pts]

Or I can go more to what I’m used to with 2 Destroyers and CV 5 but take another squad of Reapers instead of 3 Ravagers. In this list I still have 8 Minders which I like.

I think I will try list 1. It feels rather interesting and I would like to test CV4 and see as well as on how the Hunters perform driving on.

BTW I listened to CQ Podcast episode 1 and I must recommend them. Good sound, interesting discussion and overall pleasant will make me a listener.

What do you think?

  1. Not a fan of list 1, I don’t think drive on Hunters work any more. There are too many infinite/long range guns now. They need a marauder.
Also I prefer 2 squads of Destroyers, as do you I think.
List 2 is better, I think 2 squads of reapers instead of ravagers is the way to go, I’d add them to the infantry group. I really like my AA with my infantry.

What is this new podcast you mention, do you have a link?

    • I think I will try it even so. I also get the feeling that list no 2 works better but I have not really tested drive on hunters and I’m a little bit skeptical against 2 squads of reapers. Most I’m interested in the CV 4. So lots of testing this time around. Have you tested Cv 4 and walk on Hunters?

  2. I’d recommend another set of Reapers somehow. Mobile AA can stay out of LoS and still exude a threat zone. Having a 2nd squad will help against your nemesis.

    • I tested two squads of Reapers in the beginning and switched to one Reaper squad and one Ravager squad as soon as the Ravager came out and have stayed with it since. You feel it is better with 2 squads of Reapers? It might be worth investigating…

I’m responding from thoughts formed by playing Shaltari. Caiman and F’Drake typically are tasked w/ taking out enemy AA to allow me to play my gate games. When they’re sitting out there it’s easy. When they hide, I have to move to get an angle. The further away from the corner they are the more I have to advance to get a shot, which exposes them and may not even be possible considering the rest of the opposition’s forces.

Having said that, Ravagers have 4″ Mf, so they are better off than some of the other static AA. Those claws gives them some versatility and I’d hate to meet them T6 on a focal point. I’d love to see 2 sets of Reapers and the Ravagers, but then you’re getting AA heavy since you have minders. I guess what I’m saying is that it’s ultimately up to your play style. If you go with the Ravagers don’t let them become Caiman bait, which is all I’ve seen them do (but that’s probably my opponent’s mistake).

        Double Destroyer is scarier.
